The tradition of oral storytelling is a common thread uniting every culture across the world and spanning many ages. Western societies have begun to lose touch with this rich history, with only children now routinely participating in the art of reading aloud. As audiobooks have grown in popularity we are once again discovering the pleasure of being read to at any age, and live storytelling performances are one way in which authors and audiences can engage to help the culture thrive.
The events advertised here will either be those I can personally recommend, or will feature authors and narrators whose work I have reviewed and enjoyed. For the most up-to-date information on events please follow the Miss Lawrence is Hearing Things Facebook Page.

February 2019
The new year sees the launch of the ever-popular Portsmouth Book Fest. With a plethora of exciting events already announced, Bookfest will launch with one of the most anticipated (and a personal favourite) - the annual St Valentine's Day Massacre! Previous years have seen performances by Will Sutton, Diana Bretherick, and AJ Noon. This February the show will move from its usual home in Southsea, and will instead delight audiences at the Menhuin Theatre within Portsmouth Central Library.
