Throwback Thursday Review: Norse Mythology

Norse Mythology audiobook cover. Thor's hammer, Mjolnir, rests on a cosmic black background.
My rating: 4 of 5 stars ⭐⭐⭐⭐
Duration: 6 hrs 29 mins.

I was previously only familiar with a few of the Norse myths, and then my memory of them was vague and intermingled with snatches of other tales. As a fan of Gaiman's fairytale storytelling I was very much looking forward to hearing his take on these old tales, especially as he narrates the book himself, and it did not disappoint.

Retold in an entertaining, accessible fashion, with Gaiman's trademark 'fairytale' feeling, this introduction to the gods of Norse Mythology is a wonderfully rich, almost lyrical, guide to Asgard and beyond.

Each of the short tales felt as though Gaiman was reading me a bedtime story, and were each as soothing and relaxing as the next.

Highly recommended to anyone who wishes to familiarise themselves with the Norse gods, or simply longs to be lulled into dreams by Gaiman's soft, gentle, recitation.
